Challenge

Established in 1974, Orange Coast Magazine is an award-winning publication, reaching over 200,000 monthly readers. The Health issue is only published once a year and geared toward the health conscious audience of Orange County. As a bonus publication for OC Magazine readers, it was important to bring extra value to the readers through a high-end design look and feel and intriguing stories.

Solution

I approached the project by designing each story as an individual art piece, while keeping in mind how it would connect to other sections. The magazine was thoroughly reviewed with all pages next to each other and compared to the main publication to ensure branding continuity with the special issue. In addition to design and typesetting the entire magazine, I also art directed the illustration, collaborated on the photoshoots and sourced editorial imagery.
